Pink Ladies Attend Afternoon Tea to Raise Money for Breast Cancer Care

For 25 years the pink ribbon has been symbolic of the support offered by Breast Cancer Care and the strength and inspiration of the people it has helped.

On Saturday 28th October we attended The Big Pink Afternoon Tea at Banners Gate Community Church in Sutton Coldfield.

The event was organised by Gilly Flower, whose daughter Vickie McHugh  is currently undergoing  chemotherapy so what better way to show her support than to raise money for a charity so close to their hearts. Gilly’s Friend Kim Scrivener also helped with organising the event along with Nat Scrivener , Vickie and her Best friend Leanne G who supported them with raffle prizes, auction items and collections and raffle ticket sales at her pub The Angel in Lichfield.

Linda Heeley Director of Pink Hair Solutions and Sheila Coleman, pictured below, attended the afternoon tea and said what a fantastic and well organised event it was and what pleasure it was to be a part of.  Gilly has since informed us that they raised a grand total of £3000.00 for Breast Cancer Care.

Inspirational Poem

Through the services we provide we are privileged to meet some truly inspirational women, and none more so than Debbie Lee who recently entered our competition for ladies going through chemotherapy.

Debbie wrote this poem when she was diagnosed with breast cancer and she has kindly agreed to let us share her uplifting words to inspire and give strength to others going through treatment:

The moment was surreal, the words did not sink in,

The moment I was told of the cancer growing within.

My whole world just collapsed, my feelings were just numb.

This really isn’t happening, I should be having fun.

Why did it have to choose me? What was it I did wrong?

My reactions are to fall apart, but I know I must stay strong.

I live alone, what will I do?  How am I going to cope?

But a voice inside says, “fight it girl and never give up hope!”

So, fight is what I’m going to do, tho’ the journey will be tough,

But I know that I will conquer it if I fight it hard enough.

And I know there will be dark days, when it gets too much to bear,

And I’ll have to learn to take the support for me out there,

And so, begins the journey I hoped I’d never have to make,

And I know the road is bumpy, whichever route I take

But I know I’m going to beat it and I know it will take time,

But hear me cancer when I say, “the victory will be mine!”

We’re pleased to say that Debbie was one of our 6 competition winners and we wish her the very best for her treatment.
